A five-minute routine for reviewing a missed question

Getting a question wrong gives you something to investigate. Start by separating the answer you chose from the reason it did not work.

First, reread the task. Write down exactly what it asks for: a radius, a percentage of a particular group, the main idea, or something else. Check units and conditions. An accurate calculation can still answer the wrong question.

Next, compare your working with the explanation. Find the first step where they differ. Do not assume the explanation’s method is the only valid one. In an equation, ask whether your operation preserves equality. In a reading question, ask whether your evidence supports the claim you selected.

Write one useful reminder. “Use the original amount as the percentage base” is more helpful than “be careful.” For a grammar question, the note might be “find the main subject before matching the verb.”

Then try a related question without looking at the worked answer. Return to the idea later as well. Recognising a solution while it is on screen is different from reconstructing the method yourself.

If the explanation seems incorrect, report it. Include the question reference and the step you disagree with. You do not have to assume the product is right simply because it marks your answer wrong.

How to read a MastaPrep practice estimate

A MastaPrep practice estimate summarises information from your work in the app. It can help you decide what to revisit, but it is not an official score or a validated prediction of your test-day result.

Early estimates may change substantially. A small set of questions cannot represent every topic, and students may be more familiar with some material than others. Answering more questions gives the system more information; it does not turn the estimate into a guarantee.

Look beyond the headline number. Notice which topics you have practiced, which explanations you needed and whether you can solve a similar question later. Compare attempts made under similar conditions. An attempt with pauses or repeated questions is different from an uninterrupted attempt with unfamiliar material.

Our full-length practice tests use MastaPrep’s own questions, scoring and routing. They do not reproduce the exam provider’s official scoring or equating. Some older forms may include material from ordinary practice; check the test details before using a result to judge progress.

A confidence range is part of a model, not proof that its predictions have been validated. If the displayed information seems inconsistent, contact support and include the relevant attempt reference without sharing unnecessary personal details.

Use the result to choose a manageable next step: review an explanation, revisit a topic or practice pacing. For official exam information, accommodations and results, use the exam provider’s resources.
